Oak Ridge Police Department is accepting old and unused prescription drugs on Saturday, April 28. The medications can be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 200 S. Tulane Ave.
This event is meant to help prevent pill abuse and theft and is being done in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can pose potential safety and health hazards.
Last October, Americans turned in 188.5 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,300 sites operated by the DEA and nearly 4,000 state and local law enforcement partners. In its three previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in almost 500 tons of pills.
